Randell McShepard elected Chairperson for Cleveland Foundation Board of Directors; Richard Stovsky elected Vice Chair

McShepard will succeed board chairperson Constance Hill-Johnson who has served in role since 2022

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Foundation today announced the election of Randell McShepard as its new chairperson for the board of directors and Richard Stovsky as vice chair. Both will take effect April 1.

A board member since 2021 and current board vice chair, McShepard will succeed current chairperson Constance Hill-Johnson.

“Throughout our history, the foundation’s board has been a vital partner in carrying out our work to improve the lives of residents in Greater Cleveland,” said Lillian Kuri, president and CEO, Cleveland Foundation. “Randy’s longstanding commitment to service in Cleveland is exceptional. He is recognized across the region for his visionary leadership and ability to build coalitions for lasting, positive change. I am thrilled to welcome Randy as our board chair and look forward to our continued partnership over the next several years.”

McShepard is the Vice President of Public Affairs and Chief Talent Officer for RPM International Inc., where he leads external affairs, including governmental affairs and corporate philanthropy, as well as leadership development and executive training.

An active community leader, McShepard is co-founder and chairman of PolicyBridge, a public policy think tank serving the Northeast Ohio region, and co-founder of the Rid-All Green Partnership, a thriving urban farm and environmental education campus in Cleveland’s Lower Kinsman neighborhood. He currently serves as a trustee for Destination Cleveland and as a director for Citymark Capital LLC.

Among his previous community and civic roles, McShepard served as a trustee of Baldwin Wallace University and chairman of the Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Workforce Investment Board. He also served as chair of the Sisters of Charity Foundation, vice chair of The Fund for Our Economic Future and vice chair of Business Volunteers Unlimited, as well as a trustee for The George Gund Foundation, The City Club Forum Foundation and United Way of Greater Cleveland.

McShepard holds dual bachelor’s degrees from Baldwin Wallace University and a master’s degree in urban studies from Cleveland State University.

Richard Stovsky, incoming board vice chair, has served as a member of the Cleveland Foundation board since 2020. A certified public accountant and attorney, Stovsky retired from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in June 2018 after 35 years with the firm, holding positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as a vice chairman.

“Rich has contributed invaluable expertise and perspective as a member of the board, especially as an advisor to our finance and investment team,” said Kuri. “He understands the important responsibility and opportunity of the foundation to grow and steward our endowment for the greatest charitable impact in the community. I look forward to working with him in this leadership role.”

Stovsky currently serves as a Director and Audit Committee Chair of Encore Capital Group, as a Director of Olympic Steel, Inc., and is on the boards of several privately held companies including Oswald Companies, Morrison Products, Inc. and Anderson-Dubose, Inc.  He also serves on several nonprofit organization boards, including The Cleveland Orchestra Executive Committee, The 50 Club of Cleveland Executive Committee, The Cleveland Museum of Art Executive Committee, Bluecoats of Cuyahoga County Executive Committee, and The Jewish Federation of Cleveland. He holds a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and a juris doctorate from Cleveland State University College of Law.

The Cleveland Foundation also acknowledges the exceptional service of outgoing board chairperson, Constance Hill-Johnson, who will remain as a board member. Hill-Johnson served as board chair during a pivotal time in the foundation’s history, overseeing a historic CEO transition and the foundation’s move to its new MidTown headquarters in 2023.

“Connie has been a transformative leader on our board over the last several years as the foundation moved to MidTown and embarked on a new chapter in our history,” said Kuri. “Her passion for Cleveland is truly unparalleled. She has been a vocal advocate on behalf of the foundation and has worked tirelessly to elevate our work across the community. We are deeply grateful for her leadership.”
