The Urban League of Greater Cleveland Fund was recently established with a gift from the estate of Steven A. Minter, the eighth president and CEO of the Cleveland Foundation and a luminary in the field of philanthropy, who passed away in 2019. In this guest blog, Urban League of Greater Cleveland President Marsha A. Mockabee reflects on Minter’s legacy and the lasting impact this fund will have in the community.
What Your Gift Will Mean
Steve Minter was a champion for many worthwhile causes during his lifetime of service to the people of Cleveland, and one of them was the Urban League of Greater Cleveland. He labored tirelessly so that the League would be a strong advocate and service provider for those most in need.
Steve ensured his work would continue when he established this fund. He felt the work of the Urban League was so important in the lives of people and the League would be in jeopardy if not adequately supported. One of his favorite phrases was “in perpetuity,” and of course, that’s the whole purpose of the Cleveland Foundation itself. This fund just extends that concept to include the Urban League.
Steve didn’t just make a gift. He gave countless hours of volunteer time for this organization. He gave his time, talent and treasure.
All of the services provided by the League impact the lives of people every day and we make a point of meeting our clients where they are and crafting their services and support in a way that helps that person get to where it is they want to go.
The fund is a solution…a means to an end.
