Once again the foundation has the pleasure of welcoming six remarkable artists for the Fall Creative Fusion residency. As chance would have it, we have two artists each from South Africa and Taiwan. But each is very different. In this diversely creative group, we have a puppeteer, a concert violinist, a documentary photographer, a video artist, a sculptor and a painter.
This is the first in a series of ongoing blogs introducing you to our new artists.
Mi-Chen Chiu – Taiwan
Hosted by Center for Arts Inspired Learning
Since arriving in Cleveland at the beginning of September, Mi-Chen has been busy acclimating to the city, braving the “cold” and setting up her studio. She has wasted no time visiting area landmarks, including the West Side Market, Lake Erie and Unique Thrift.
A Taiwanese puppeteer, Mi-Chen has been working in the studio developing sample puppets using recycled materials, newspaper, paper tubes and scotch tape. The puppets will be used to teach area students construction and performance. Her visits will focus on local schools that offer Mandarin. She is currently working with educators at Richmond Heights Elementary School and Laurel School to plan upcoming workshops and demonstrations.
She is one of my very talented colleagues. I feel very proud of her. I hope she enjoy her stay in Cleveland. Best wishes to her and your foundation.
