So far I love both: the professional side that the Cleveland Foundation exhibits during our weekly gatherings at the office, and the creative expression that is seeping from the walls at my host site, Lake Erie Ink “A Writing Space for Youth”. It has been a phenomenal opportunity for me, as an English major, to find a place where I can utilize my potential in my preferred area of study.
This summer at Lake Erie Ink, I will be coordinating the teen writing workshops. I choose certain speakers and activities and I am the overall promoter of the evening workshops. The age group is from 12 to 18; however, I will also be working with children during the day.
My main project is Lake Erie Ink’s first ever “Story Slam”. A story slam is similar to a poetry slam competition in a sense that words and charisma are in one’s arsenal and are often utilized to please the crowd. The story slam I will be coordinating will be at Logan Berry Books from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 25. I highly recommend that you attend this event!
Each week we use this space to give each of our interns a chance to reflect on their internship experiences.Joshua is a student at Notre Dame College. Placement: Lake Erie Ink
