Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Scholarship
Purpose: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 to provide annual scholarships for post-secondary education to graduating Cleveland Metropolian School District high school seniors who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in the music industry. Applicants may be aspiring professional musicians and/or those seeking to develop skills in professions that facilitate, enhance, and sustain the music industry such as marketing/promotion, radio broadcasting, film/sound recording, audio technician, or law.
Eligibility criteria:
- Graduating high school senior from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District
- Completing a college preparatory curriculum
- Accepted full time at an accredited college or university (or accredited school of music)
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the music industry
- Financial need
- U.S. citizen or legal resident with I-551 permanent residency card or passport stamped "I-551 in effect"
Selection criteria and process: A selection committee appointed by the Cleveland Foundation will base selections on the completed application form as well as the following:
- Evidence of commitment to the music industry
- 400- to 500-word essay on career aspirations and goals
- High school transcript
- Student Aid Report (SAR) resulting from filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and/or financial aid award letter showing SAR
- Letter of recommendation from an individual who can attest to the applicant's commitment to the music industry
Award amount and process: The amount of awards for the 2012-13 academic year will be based on the quality and number of applicants. Notifications of awards will be mailed from the Cleveland Foundation to selected students.
Renewal: Renewability will be based on earnings of the fund, the spending policy, and subsequent additions to the fund. However, it is anticipated that recipients will be eligible to renew for three additional years provided they: (1) continue to pursue a course of study conducive to a career in the music industry; (2) maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale); (3) continue full-time enrollment status; (4) remain in good standing at their educational institution, and; (5) show evidence of continued financial need.
